Unfortunately...

Tonight I opened a fortune cookie that said, "You are the controller of your destiny." Thanks a fuckin' lot, cookie. That's not a fortune at all. In fact, that's the opposite of a fortune. It's a MISfortune. Are you even trying?

I wondered how it was that your parents didn't/couldn't know about your beliefs (see recent post regarding singing at your mom's church for Christmas Eve services). I guess I didn't realize that they simply don't use the internet like those of our generation. That said, you're probably smart to make your status private because you know those crazy kids are bound to look you up and spill all the beans!

Of course, and I could be completely wrong, I think your parents would be more accepting than you might think, even given their occupation. I don't think you'd ever hear the end of it, but I think they know that your choices are your choices.

Well assuming this comment is from... Amber? I'll say this:

I know my parents will always love and accept me no matter what my beliefs. That's not the problem. The problem is that I can't stand the thought of breaking their hearts. I know their reaction will make me feel guilty, and I'd rather not feel guilty for being who I am. Not that they'd do it on purpose, but that's the gist of it.

I understand. My parents (especially mom) are on us hardcore about having kids...which is difficult, if not impossible when you have PCOS. They don't know about the diagnosis - for all the reasons you said. It isn't that they wouldn't understand, I just don't want to feel guilty about being fat.
