Actually, "kara" means "empty," and "oke" is an abbreviation for "orchestra." Thus speaks the Japan-Guide site, Wikipedia, and most importantly, Winnie Cooper in her guest role on "How I Met Your Mother."

Apparently "open" and "voice" are both very, VERY loose translations!
