I'll take a quiet life

Oct 26, 2009 14:30

Saturday: I got up early and cycled in the rain to buy two loaves from a local bakery before joining barnacle on a march for emissions reduction. Sunday: j4 and I assembled a wooden compost bin and later walked to evensong at an ancient leper chapel with a congregation of three others. This is not the metropolitan life I expected to be living, but it's ( Read more... )

Oooh, is Gibbons bread as good as it is cracked up to be? I have been meaning to get along there some time but never managed it.

Also ooh, St Bartholomew's Chapel. Cool!

Tasty, certainly. I'm no connoisseur but the bakery has the advantage over the Co-op of actually having bread in stock. At least, in stock before 9 o'clock - apparently it does sell quickly.

We'd meant to visit Bartlemas as part of Open Doors but the simple, quiet service at dusk was effective and affecting (notwithstanding my concerns about being a religious tourist!)

Marching for emissions reduction? Are you some kind of domestic extremist?

If I'm not on a list somewhere then either I'm failing to do my job or the police are...

The police took extensive photographs of the dozen people standing outside BBC Oxford last Thursday, and gave a rehearsed vague answer about how long they intended to keep the photos if (as was the case) no trouble erupted. So that seems a reliable way to get in their books.

You're on my flist to start with.

And if the police don't read that, they're missing some good blogs.

Aha. In that case it probably was j4 standing on a table whom I waved at last night. I wasn't sure (but waved anyway :)

Well, either that or she's got incredibly tall. I was packed very tightly into a corner.

Oh, what a shame to have missed you. I've been wanting to ask whether you've seen the HIS and HERS driveway on the other side of our road.

It was a rickety stool, in fact - but you've seen the 15" boots, right? (-;

No, I haven't seen this driveway of which you speak! I'll have a look this evening :)

I'm scared by the boots. I'm particularly scared about the idea of them on top of a rickety stool (unless you just meant they had been practise for such a thing...). If the former, I admire the grace with which it was achieved!

I ran away the instant BFB came off stage or I'd have said hello - I had two carloads of stuff to pack, shift to London and unpack last night. Wasn't willing to miss the gig to do that, though :)

No, the boots were just practice! j4 did stay for a charming personal message from the singer.

The driveway is at number 32. So far I've only seen HERS, a Peugeot; I'm hoping HIS will be a pink Morris Minor.

last but one ever! Oh no! Unsurprisingly (given the venue) I see the last one is sold out. Shame, I definitely could have persuaded my parents to come along.

Fingers crossed it'll be their last tour in the sense of the Riverdance 'Farewell Tour', in Oxford for a second time.
