Prescription for self-awareness

Some people feel superior for knowing when to use its and when to use it's (the possessive takes an apostrophe, of course). I feel superior to those people for knowing when it doesn't matter.

Recently I heard a strong opinion about the misuse of lol in place of a smiley. "It stands for 'laughing out loud'! You can't use it for your own jokes. That ( Read more... )

I suppose I get nil points for refusing to engage with people who know not of the capital letter and seem to only be able to type in txt.

My sister does that, and I suspect I will in the future. I'm sure I remember a time when I would never have sullied any communication with a smiley, for example :)

How long have I let this lie? 2 days. good me. was it a test of who was incapable of not posting to say 'no' desipte obvious joking? And I'm the only one to fail the test? I am sheldon. dammit.

You weren't the only one to notice, jackfirecat. A whole group of people discussed it in real life at a picnic on Sunday. We realised that all of us had spotted it and all of us had refrained from pointing it out because we didn't want to look humourless. I sort of hope that if it had been a fire, rather than a solecism, at least one of us would have overcome our fear of looking silly.
