The woods were lovely

I took j4 on a badger watch for her birthday.

The University owns ancient woodland at Wytham on the outskirts of Oxford. The woods are intensively studied but they are open to walkers (after obtaining a free permit). They are also open to badgers, and each spring, the public is invited to take part in a badger census.

I know Wytham woods rather well; indeed I provide them with their Internet access.

The Oxford University field-station people have so far not taken up my suggestion of setting up a publicly accessible night-vision BadgerCam™.

True...

I had plans to offer a TitCam™ but by the time I came to install the necessaries into the bird-box, someone* was already in residence and I didn't want to disturb them.

* a Parus major to be precise. Which kinda links back to Wytham in that it was there that the late David Lack started his serious ornithological research. These days I do occasional bits of IT consultancy for Peter, his son, at BTO in Thetford.

Amazing! Is it true that badgers don't get scared by lights, so you can put up floodlights if you want?

That sounds like a #fakebadgerfact; but the guide claimed that many adult badgers develop cataracts and, in particular, flash photography wouldn't put them off. Useful.
