'For the music fan of a certain age, flicking through gig guides has recently become a source of profound discombobulation. Every page delivers a series of cataclysmic jolts from the past: the House of Love, Pop Will Eat Itself, the Wonderstuff, the Wedding Present, Suede, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, they're all back.' Think House of Love are playing at my venue this week. We've already had Steven Lindsay and Craig Armstrong of The Big Dish, and (on a completely different note) Jefferson Starship.
Obviously not putting massive amounts of faith in the future of new music.

No music being made now will ever die. I don't know if that's what 'keep music live' was supposed to mean, but on balance it's a good thing. Even tribute bands have their place.

the Wedding Present

Them thar Weddoes have never been away. Dave Gedge is a genius and a saint, and I'm saying that as a bloke who used to drink beer with him in the dump that was the Hyde Park in Leeds.

I saw him for the first in Seattle at the weekend, and I have to say I'm converted.

They've been away as THEWEDDINGPRESENT, and the current incarnation is basically the same as the last version of Cinerama (the new album was originally going to be released under that name). I haven't heard anything by Piano Magic for a while, but there's a terrific collection of singles called Seasonally Affective. I have a feeling "I am the sub-librarian" would go down well in certain circles.

Audience subdued: apart from the two mad east asian lads in front of me and Mike, and the pair with the banner and the flowers.

... and as you posted, you'd have been joining in if you hadn't been ill. Sorry we weren't standing with you two. Apparently the banner paraphrased the Smiths: 'A rush and a push and the charts are ours'.
