Mexico

Is it my imagination, or does virtually every citizen of Mexico want to be a citizen of the US? What if the US annexed Mexico? How would we do congressional representation, etc.?

Bilingual or monoglot?

Would it help, or would the entire Caribbean get in line to apply for annexation?

Then we could add Canada into the mix and call it the North American Union :p

Really, I think its a terrible idea, not only because most Mexicans don't want to be US citizens and most US citizens don't want Mexico to become part of the US, but also because it is an attack on the sovereignty and on the unique cultural identity of each country. But considering immigration and demographic statistics as they are, such an action wont be necessary, Mexico will be annexing the US in 50 years or so.

Well, there ya go. You're right about Mexican sovereignty and culture. Things would have to be figured out.

It wouldn't be so much of a change -- the U.S. government and businesses already have more influence on the Mexican government than, y'know, most citizens of Mexico.

It is economic. There is pressure caused by capitalism which pushes people into jumping the border. It isn`t because they want to invade or be U.S. citizens. The NAU is not for the benefit of Mexicans or Canadians or Americans. It benefits business and corporations not people. This kind of policy promotes racism and xenophobia.

I hear the deeper parts of Mexico are nice... I mean, people vacation there, right? Mexican culture is beautiful. When i was little I thought all of Mexico was like Tijuanna... I was like, "No wonder they wanna come here!" (Then at 18 I discovered the dance clubs and strip joints).
I also heard less Mexicans want to come here lately because of the economy.

Depends on what "serious" means. I seriously meant it as a talking point; I'm not circulating petitions to sign.

I'm mostly trying to figure out how to level the playing field, so those who don't want to come here won't be forced by economics to try.
