LOL, honestly, who saw the video for Karma Chameleon for the first time in the '80s and didn't think Boy George was gay? He came out to the universe right at that time.

My mom thought he was a girl, actually. LOL. I remember her telling me she'd watch the video and sing along and think to herself "What a cute, perky girl. She's got such original style!" And yes, she did know his name was Boy George too. It just never clicked or connected with her. My mom's funny. xDDD

LOL, my mum was a bit more sedate. She wanted to know why that girl was wearing so much make up and why her name was Boy George. My dad just flat out asked whether it was a boy or girl.

Such a shame the lovely gender bending stars of the '80s are finding themselves in trouble these days. Adam Ant, Boy George... I loved them all.

oh my god, Adam Ant. it's also entirely my mother's fault i had the biggest crush on him as a kid LOL. Goody Two Shoes would come on and we'd sing and dance around the house. xD

And as far as gender bending goes, my mom loved Ziggy Stardust too. I grew up with the business suit David Bowie; China Girl, Let's Dance, Changes, all that, so that's my personal favorite Bowie, but well... Ziggy Stardust was just so out there and brilliant that you can't NOT love him, if you're into this kinda stuff. I loved when Bowie was on SNL back in the 70s and had Klaus Nomi with him, that was too awesome. I'd have loved to see what he'd have done if he'd continued that into the 80s, but he did help continue to pave the way, as Boy George says in this interview. xD

Sorry for my tangent!! :D
