Retro Thursday: Roslin and Adama Theme

Feb 09, 2012 08:46

One of the most memorable pieces of music from the show, 'Roslin and Adama' will always have a special place in shippers' hearts. I remember it absolutely gutting me in RSII, watching Billy slowing lead Roslin to her quarters. I was sure we were going to lose her then.

I loved reading how Bear McCreary felt about this song back after The Hub ( Read more... )

The song still tears me up. The first time I heard it on it's own was a live video of Bear playing it (might've been that concert in California?). I remember getting such chills when the tone changes and it shifts midway to the more triumphant-sounding half. It was right then that I bought all of the soundtrack CDs and actually started truly noticing all the music in the show aside from the poundy drums.

I don't watch many videos, but the one defyingnormalcy linked - Falling Slowly - is one of the few I have. I adore that one. I also remember thinking that "Wire to Wire" by Razorlight had A/R written aaaaalllll over it.

I had only heard it on the show, and I had no idea it was actually called 'Roslin and Adama' until quite a while later. Then I knew they were destined (because all Epic pairings in SW have their own theme songs :D).

Falling Slowly is one of my favourite vids ever!

You know, "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol always reminds me of A/R. Of course, I'm a bit of a musical void so someone had to tell me it was, like, the most used shipper song ever, for, like, a ton of pairings, LOL. It's just NC A/R to me :D

Oh, I love this piece of music. The shuffle on my MP3 player is useless, so I play my playlist in alphabetical order. The end result being that I get "Roslin Confesses" "Roslin and Adama" and "Roslin and Adama Reunited" all in a row and turn into a pile of happy shipper. (For the record, "So Much Life" and "An Easterly View" are STRICTLY BANNED as I am willing to turn into a pile of happy in the lab, but starting to cry would be bad.)

Other songs... Hi, my name is Yubsie and I'm addicted to making fanmixes... So!

1. In Whatever Time We Have from Children of Eden. If I had to pick one song to describe their entire relationship, it would be this one. It includes such fitting lines as "We could live a thousand years, or the world could end tomorrow but at least we'll be together in whatever time we have" and "I could make it on my own, now I know that I don't have to"

2. Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own- U2. I dare you to listen to this and not think of Kobol ( ... )

Oh, I love how you've done this! I heard that Children of Eden song just recently and thought exactly the same thing! I love how you've included some lyrics here, so even if I didn't know the song, I can still hear the sentiment. Beautiful.

I do know that U2 song, and pairing it with Kobol is brilliant!

Now I've gotta check out your tracklist :)

Heh, the lyric thing is a habit from putting obscure songs on fanmixes. The tracklist is from a fanmix I posted here during the month of love. The first few songs are Bill and Laura as individuals and then from "Don't LIke You" on it's the progression of their relationship.

The Children of Eden song really does fit perfectly. It even has stuff about the world ending!

THIS SONG!!!
It's the first time i realised i was a shipper (before knowing the word) and that i noticed my emotions were directely connected with the soundtrack. After that, I bought all the soundtrack, found Bear's blog...and became a fan.
I avoid listening to this theme at work, it's not good for the experiments and my co-workers are all asking if there's something wrong...

Me, too! The music was so powerful at the end of RSII, and um, I may have watched it a few times, and I felt a real need to try to connect with other people who might have been feeling the love, too (I have to admit I wondered if anyone else would be into the 'older couple'). I found so many lovely people!

my co-workers are all asking if there's something wrong...

Awww, I so get this.

it's hard to imagine one without the other.

I couldn't agree more.

Ringtone, eh? What a lovely idea. Do you have it starting at the beginning? (I'm currently using the Imperial March, lol).

I know I'll cry.

Yup. Already have :(

Their theme &hearts It really makes feel like there's a beautiful, desperate, doomed situation that somehow people are still finding hope for tomorrow in. I love a little melancholy in my music, and apparently in my shipping, so I really love the two together.

I've brought it up before, but Carry You Home by James Blunt is incredible and works beautifully for A/R.

There's also a video out there for the two of them with Book of Love by Peter Gabriel, and that's just a fantastic love song. I recommend checking out the cover done by Airborne Toxic Event.

I love the way you put this, so true. It's not a happy love song, even the more up beat part at the end has a sort of melancholy to it that I love, too.

Just by the title, I think the James Blunt song might make me cry :(

It might make you cry, but it's well worth a listen! Annie, also by James Blunt, makes me think of Laura too- and considering the song perspective also has a bit of Bill in it. 'Course, it also might be a tear bringer.

So perfect!!!

"Book of Love" is just their entire love story and "Carry you home"...Argh, another song I can't have at work...fit so well their few last moments together.
