Did NRP today-Neonatal Resuscitation. wheee....actually not too bad, since it was just the four of us. But still sucked to get up at the crack of dawn. Oh well. Fun intubating the little rubber baby torsos. Kind of creepy when you think about it. And then, the second time we had to intubate, the ETT was a little sticky, and I just didn't want ( Read more... )

I can't think of a less fun way to spend my Saturday than neonatal resusitation. My hat is off to you!

PS. I like Oat Bran. It's not old just...healthy...that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

You had resus training on a Saturday? That sucks. When it's not on the weekend, resus training can be quite fun, the practical bit anyway... except when we have to role play and you get to be the distraught mother... The weirdest thing is, we always get to play around at intubating, when it's never ever going to be something we'll do... which always seems like a bit of a waste of time to me.

It is practical, and I'm eventually glad I did it, but it sucks to take up a weekend. ;)
You guys don't do the intubation ever? I suppose here, the respiratory therapist is most likely to do it, since they've got more experience.

Nope, nurses never intubate here. Always an anaesthetist in controlled situations, or a doctor in a crash situation. We just bag and mask until they arrive.

Huh. Although here, I think a lot of the time it is respiratory therapists who do it.
