I knew it as the Angry Baby song to be sung to a swaddled fretful baby, while rocking vigorously and praying for sleep for both of you.

I've started remembering lots of little things like that...including the leg-over-leg chant the other day. Melody watched me as I sang it to Liam as if I'd lost my mind. leg over leg, little dog goes to town, leg over leg, then he comes back, trip-trap, trip-trap (while scuffing along the souls of the babies feet together...

I remember it from one of her folk albums, possibly based on an even older song. She called it "The Hostile Baby Rocking Song", Her story intro puts the song into folk perspective, and includes, "To be sung when all the paregoric is gone. The paregoric is gone because you drank it." I bet the full version is out there on the you tubes somewhere.
