Zero Post for Highlander Story
The Tale of the Scorpion
mackiedockie and I have finally finished the Highlander story we've been working on for so long. One reason it took so long to finish was how we started it - as a fun bit of comment fic, not meant to be anything else - no thinking was involved. This embryonic version is posted over on my Insane Journal. We started it while Mackie was on vacation in Mexico, just the two of us batting dialog back and forth, with about a half dozen friends snickering at us. But the fun kept growing and there was a plot explosion. After 30 thousand words we sought help, beta readers to the rescue! unovis_lj and lferion assisted us the best they could with the struggle of too many POV switches - which is the norm for comment fic, but just doesn't do for a proper tale. So we wrote and re-wrote. Then it was time to do our holiday gift stories for hlh_shortcuts, so we set it aside to age. Well, after the New Year we picked it up again, thinking it wouldn't take too long to finish up - it had been almost a year after all. Nope. It started to grow again. It's over 58 thou now. We eventually had to divide it into four google docs so as not to explode our little piece of the cloud. At this point anya2112 and methos_fan were reading here and there, trying to keep us on the slash and narrow. When we finally determined we'd reached the end, teresa_c ("dragonfly" on DW) gave it a thorough go over, and birggitt kindly changed our scattered Spanglish into Spanish. And then of course we started to add more.... Finally, we've decided to call it the end of book one, since we have answered the original questions. New plot currents can be detected toward the end...and so we flow. Finally, dear_0phelia was recruited for a last minute cold read.
Thank you, all very much for helping us beat this one into submission.
Gray Over Warnings: Violence would be the main warning. But if you're a regular Highlander reader, then no worries. There are scorpions in this story. (Teresa mentioned that they are not appealing to everyone, a thought neither Mackie or I had any idea of, (Nice little critters.) Oh, sex. Yes, there's some sex, eventually. There's het! How did that happen? And of course slash. Absolutely no curtains were purchased in this story. I'm sure if they had been, someone would have gotten blood on them.
You'll have to look to Mackie for a summary. She will post on DW. It all has to do with Joe Dawson, Mary Alvarez, horses, Methos, Duncan MacLeod, scorpions, El Alacrán, Grace, Amy and Watchers!
We will post one chapter a day, which is two or three posts a chapter. Should take four days.
