yeah...and I felt so sorry for the porr neglected ski bum that I had to give him a past. He really ws a nice guy, in the end. But yes, in this tale all our boyos wind up (relatively) undamaged. And that was fun to write, too.
I finally caught up on this entire story, and I'm just blown away. I don't know where to begin. This is so true to all of the characters, but especially to Joe - thank you for giving him this poignant and perfect chance to shine. I loved his reply to Cassandra, that it was none of her business why he did what he did - and the comment by Methos, that it looked like Duncan was the one under Joe's protection. I just adored this. Well done indeed.
Adabsolutely got into Joe's head too--there's spots where we both forgot who wrote what for awhile. Ad is far, far better at getting into Duncan and Methos' dynamic--I tend to forget one of them and leave them sulking in the corner for half a scene *g*
It was fun to let Joe have his head in the plot, after we figured out the noninterference directive didn't apply to Liane and Cassandra. Mostly.
Lovely story, the whole thing. I particularly like Joe's strength and the general caring and competance of all the principals, as well as the way you handled Cassandra.
But my favorite bit in the end was Methos "I was there" and the strong/gentle way he cares for Joe.
This is going in the "keep for re-reading" list, for sure.
I'll try and keep my paws off it from here on out...*g*. I was a menace for last minute scebe tweaking, especially in the last chapter. (Especially as I dumped an extra 1000 words out of thin air on Ad about an hour before deadline!!!)
We really appreciate your encouraging words. It was great fun o follow the story where it lead us.
I've been meaning to leave a comment since, well, since you started posting this (sorry!), but I figured better late than never, no? I've really enjoyed reading this - the dialogue between the boys, the non-demonizing of Cassandra (which sometimes happens with alarming frequency), and of course the general awesomeness of Joe *g*. It's been a really enjoyable ride, and I hope you two continue to collaborate. Thanks for sharing this! : D
Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully we will do it again someday. I'm really hoping mackiedockie will get back to and finish her CSI/HL cross. The round robin kind of took over for a while. Though it was a peaceful take-over:-)
Sometimes I think the boyos write their own dialog, they just let us listen in every once and a while. Cassandra, now--Cassandra is tough to write. We almost left her with all of three lines *g*. But it was worth going back and working on her parts. We did want her to be a strong woman with dangerous proclivities, but not a cardboard villain.
Strangely, I had no idea she was even going to show up until halfway through the story...
Ad probably needs a long, long rest before we try this again, but she didn't rule it out *g* There she is, writing a nice romantic interlude, and I go and try and burn down the bar...sheesh.
