It was almost like being dragged out of a deep trance. Luke had probably been staring right at her for a full minute before his brain caught up and registered exactly who he was now gaping at.
His mouth took another minute. "Tear!"
Asch had said she was in Atlas, but when Luke had asked to see the guild registry, her name hadn't been on the list at all. Now she was standing right beside him and he had no idea what to do - whether to stand up or remain seated. Or what to say. Or.
He started by swallowing the lump in his throat.
"...Heh. Looks like I messed this one up big time, huh?"

Messed up? What? It didn’t make any sense to her.
“Idiot.” The old standby response for when she needed a moment to think and he wasn’t making sense. She had often thought what she would say to him when she saw him again. Somehow, none of them seemed to fit right now.
“Idiot,” she repeated. “You haven’t messed anything up.”

He'd intended to keep his promise somehow. Luke had wanted to live; he'd wanted to go home after everything was through even though it seemed impossible. Now he realized he'd never really given the details of that promise much thought, just that he hadn't wanted to break it.
The redhead mentally flinched in response to the first word out of Tear's mouth.
"W-what do you mean?" he asked quietly. "I promised I'd come home, didn't I? Even though I wasn't sure how I'd do it, I really meant what I said."
Time finally resumed and Luke reached up to nervously scratch the side of his head.
"...This isn't exactly what I had in mind, though."

"Hey, are you okay Luke?"

"Yeah. I was just thinking about what they said in the guild meeting. About monsters attacking, and the 'Negativity' and everything."
Luke leaned back against the bench and glanced up into the sky. No fonbelt.
"It sounds like this world's really in trouble," he said after a while. It didn't take a great deal of imagination to figure out Luke was considering helping to do something about it - or at least that he wanted to.

The girl took a seat beside him, leaning slightly against the swordsman. Luke was as easy to read as a large print book at times.
"I suppose you want to create a party or something like that to help out the guild?" She asked quietly as she focused her gaze on the people leaving the meeting.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire it seemed like. Though the situation in Daath was still complicated she knew the people of this world needed her help. Good thing she wasn't the type to sit. Perhaps she would join this guild thing, if only to help out her friends that she loved.

Luke didn't bother to scoot over. Anise had somehow found room on the bench beside him, and if he'd have preferred more space, he didn't say.
"W...well... 'Start with what you can do', right? We don't know a whole lot about this place, and Asch sure isn't jumping at the chance to fill us in. No one knows how to get back to Auldrant, either. Even though this isn't our world, shouldn't we be doing something to help out?"
Luke glanced over at Anise as he finished talking, then, seeing she was looking elsewhere, followed her gaze over to the door. Was Asch still in there or had he snuck out another way? Who else might he have missed?
