[Ruca was walking near the beach for some time now, wondering if he should join the party or not as a sudden scream interrupted his thoughts. He looked towards the beach and saw sea serpents thrashing boats. Some people were trying to fight the raging creatures off ( ... )

[Unfortunately for Ruca, the serpents were getting closer. Even Genis could notice it as he ran towards Ruca. Oh man... they were gonna attack! Immediately swinging his kendama, Genis covers for him with a quick spell:] Force Field!

[Admittedly, the shield breaks right after the serpent hits, but it's good enough to protect Ruca in-between attacks. Genis frowns. How strong are these things?]

You okay?

[Ruca was fully concentrated on casting the spell, but he did noticed the monsters were going to attack. He was about to lose his focus to try to defend himself, but suddenly he heard Genis’ voice and a protective barrier appeared in front of him, shielding him from the serpent’s attack. That was close! As soon as the barrier broke, Ruca cast the spell ( ... )

[This wasn't good at all! Not even Mithos was capable of defeating these in a single stroke. If Genis weren't so busy trying to kill them, he'd be focused on making sure everyone got to safety. That was the important thing! Monsters first.]

Good. [Genis couldn't help cracking a smile as he glanced at Ruca. Nodding, he swung his kendama again while he stepped back from the serpents.]

So what can you do? Are you a magic-user or a melee fighter, typically? [Yeah, Ruca had gone through the trial - but Genis hadn't been the one to administer it. It was only understandable that Genis wasn't too well-versed. In-between words, however, Genis closed his eyes and started to concentrate on yet another spell. How many of these serpents were out there?]

[When Lionel Drakensgard had agreed to the Port Merrium beach party, he expected a day of rest and relaxation. Today was quality bonding time with him and his young son Timothy! As the two walked down the streets of Port Merrium together, everything had been peaceful at first. Tim had rolled his eyes at all of his dad's lame jokes - "Come on, Dad! It's not funny the third time!" - as Lionel continued to crack puns.

Then they heard the cries of people. Staring at the source of the noise, the two men stared at the sea serpents before them. Where did they come from? Without thinking, Tim rushed towards the harbor - and the people running away from the boats. His dad followed him out, but before either Tim or Lionel knew it, the two had separated.]

Come on! Everyone! Head to the plains! We'll be safe there! [The lucky ones who heard him headed back immediately. Tim didn't bother waiting for them - he knew a lot of families could take care of themselves - as he rushed towards a couple who'd been stranded on one of the canals. Fishing ( ... )

[At the first sign of trouble, and with the serpents too far away for her to attack effectively, Sheena concentrated her efforts on getting the bystanders away. It reminded her in dark ways of Luin. People were scrambling and running away without direction; until the monsters got closer, Sheena focused on the kids she could see, stranded on the beach without adults nearby, or separated from them in the chaos ( ... )

[Asch had tried to avoid something like a beach party, but seeing and hearing the chaos along the shore aroused his suspicions. Muttering a curse under his breath, he raced over to find rampaging sea serpents, spellcasting and sword-swinging Ad Libitum members, and a lot of panicking bystanders. One in particular had reached the shore, and it was fighting someone he recognized as an Ad Libitum member. This was the member who fought with cards. It wouldn't have taken him long to realize that she could probably needed help, but before he could come to that conclusion, he had already begun to charge toward the serpent. ]

Move! Fang Blade!

[The uppercut at the end of the attack would have sent a smaller target flying, but he succeeded in shoving it backwards, though only marginally so. As Asch landed from the arte, he positioned his blade in a defensive stance as he glanced back for a moment to keep in mind the whereabouts of the other fighter. What the hell did you people do? Just stay back and do whatever you're supposed to do with that ( ... )

We didn't do anything! They just came out of nowhere.

[The insult to her cards, though. That was really irritating.]

This is what I'm supposed to do with 'that paper.' This thing's just huge! And I didn't bring a knife or anything to the beach party. [Which, to be fair, she should have. It's best for a ninja to be prepared. But in her defense, the cards are usually more than sufficient. She did appreciate the help, though, so she stepped back to concentrate.]

Tethe Seal! [Asch's sword would have a temporary lightning-element boost, probably the best thing to deal with a sea serpent.]

If you gimme a distraction I can try to get up there and attack its face.

[That was, of course, before it decided to swipe at them both with its tail. Sheena ducked, but the force of it sent her rolling away on the sand anyway.]

[And who would catch Sheena as she was sent flying? A certain boy with angel-grade strength. Mithos set her down gently, his wings fluttering a bit, though he made a special point not to touch any 'certain' part of Sheena's body. She's a dirty human, after all.]

There, tell Genis we're even. [Mithos said as he set Sheena down, saving her from a nasty blow. She could heal herself, Mithos wasn't going to waste any magic on a human. That serpent, however... Mithos began charging a spell, his wings glowing.]

Repent for your sins through suffering... RETRIBUTION! [A large wave of magic washed over the entire area, and suddenly, the serpents in the immediate area fell ill, confused, or strangely stiff as a plethora of status effects struck them all at once. That should make things easier for Asch.]

[Once all the sea serpents are dead, Ad Libitum members might notice something weird. The serpents' bodies disappear - as if they'd never existed - into the water. There's a low moan for a few minutes. The towsnpeople, thanks to the aid of Tim, Innes, and Shirley, have all successfully made it to the Iktomi Plains.

Good thing, too, because at the edge of the pier? Is probably the scariest Hydra anyone has come across. It's destroying boats right and left, but at this point? No one's really around to care.

Ad Libitum, your job isn't over just yet. Good luck. You'll need it.]

I'll start this party. notsephiroth July 2 2010, 01:57:53 UTC
[Widdershin teleported directly in front of the hydra, ten or so yards away on the pier. His arms were stretched out, as the blue circle behind him began to glow violently, as nine different points on the circle began illuminating against the setting sun. These points soon formed into translucent swords, each about three quarters of a yard long, and floated around Widdershin as if suspended by invisible threads. Widdershin hovered a few feet off of the ground, crossing his arms.]

You will not harm Kannono.

[Widdershin said, almost commandingly. He could sense that this thing was not a normal monster, and had a very odd presence radiating from it. Widdershin had tested his strength in this world against normal beasts, and this would provide a better challenge. He was sure someone was going to assist him against this thing - not that he wanted their help - but he was eager to begin.]

Party time! absolute_pact July 2 2010, 03:34:19 UTC
[Sheena didn't recognize the person already facing the Hydra. Then again, she wasn't really thinking about who he might be, because there was a Hydra over there and it looked huge, and nasty. She'd managed to borrow a knife from a bystander between the arrival of the serpents and now, but one little knife wasn't going to do much against this thing.

And she had the weirdest feeling that she knew something bad about hydras.

As long as no one charged in recklessly - as long as there was a chance to plan, small though the chance may be - things could work out. So she looked around for Lloyd. She couldn't think of anyone else more likely to rush in without thinking, and she had something she needed to ask him to do before it was too late to think about it.]

[Luckily for you, Sheena, Lloyd had been searching around for someone to try and strategize with before rushing in. See, he learns! Although he'd rather just run in and swing his swords, with something like that... He knew he'd just get killed.

So once he saw a familiar face, he rushed towards her. She might notice that his entire body is pretty red, considering he was dunked into near boiling hot water.]

Sheena!
