Have you thought about doing a public policy fellowship? I know a lot of graduate students who have gone this route. Maybe you're not really interested in politics, but I feel that this is a great way to make sure that science is an important part of the government, and I know a lot of students at UCLA who have gone on to work for various government institutions doing science outreach, science consulting, policy research, etc. I think it might fit your bill if you enjoy technical writing, communications, and PR more than actual research.

There's the Congressional Science Fellowships for the APS and the AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowship amongst many, many others. There's a better list here.

The other option is seeing if you get can get a job at a journal. I have no idea how many physics/astronomy journals there are, but if there are any openings for writers or entry-level copy editors or something, that might also be a good venue for you to go and look for a job. Lots of options open for Ph.D.s these days. Good luck.

I hadn't thought of that, exactly - thank you so much for those lists! I will definitely take a look. I just think I'm so much better at writing than research, I'd rather leave that to people that really enjoy it and and are much more creative with that aspect of it, and put what I'm really good at to work for them. Because you're right - I'm not all that excited about politics, but I do think it's very important to represent science, and that takes good writing! o/

A lot of what goes in the policy fellowships isn't necessarily directly being involved in politics, but seems to be more drafting policies, consulting for science policy, etc. Basically being able to synthesize information so people can understand what's going on ( ... )

Well then that actually sounds pretty fun.

It's all a little daunting, seriously, to just kind of sit here and go, "WHAT DO I WANT TO DO WITH MY LIFE?" (I'm sure you know the feeling. <333) But It's definitely a very good place to start - a lot of lawmakers are so woefully uneducated that it makes me want to cry. FIXING THIS WOULD NOT BE A BAD THING. Making money while doing it might be even better. ;D After all, if I want to be a novelist, I need a day job first.

Thank you, seriously! It's a really good start, and something I will definitely take a look at!

8D I love it~ Although it makes some people think I'm in the Navy or something... I have been asked that before and I always go, "Buh?" before I realize why they're asking.
