I may occasionally play around with alternate continuities in which Amity's original love interest didn't die eight years before the story started -- mostly because I think they're really cute together. However, plotlines mean that most of the other characters' health and current/future state of more-or-less okay require Amity to be where she is, which is a direct result of her backstory in the form that it is. (She's a surprisingly key character -- if I time-beetle her, several people die and the rest wander off and are miserable by themselves with no plot. Where 'miserable' sometimes means 'miserable' and sometimes means 'miserable AND so warped from the original character concept that I no longer recognize them.') So usually I just make up scenes in which they are cute ten or fifteen years ago.
