I don't think I can talk about how much of a life I DIDN'T have while I was catching up. (...And..since I am all caught up now, while waiting for the new episodes to come back on air in January...I-I'm rewatching it all. My friend let me rip her digital copy of Season 3, so I can put episodes on my ipod!!! .../nerd.)
I am pretty much floored every new season, if not more than once per season, how much they write things that usually make me cringe (I don't like things too heavily Christian-mythology-based--usually, I find that people get it wrong and it's just too frustrating for me to be like COME ON, SERIOUSLY? THAT'S NOT WHAT IT IS-- I don't usually like end-of-the-world stories, I'm a big but suuuper picky fan of breaking the fourth wall) and they do it so well every time.
ME, TOO. And I am so rocking a Lucy!Sam costume at Starfest in the spring :D
Yeah, were it not finals I would be having very little life myself. As it is, I've seen a mishmash of seasons four and five, and been really, really favorably impressed. My impression (garnered, to be fair, almost entirely from Fandom Wank) was that it was a show whose primary merits were slashy brothers and dubious special effects. I was really surprised at how good it was, and how compelling the characters were. Also, holy crap, mood whiplash! The writers know how to make you chortle and die a little inside within a minute, and they do it all the time. To be honest, I'm enjoying being (successfully) played that way. *Shrugs* Anyway, I share your misgivings about an explicitly Christian-based mythology - also because I prefer All Legends Are True mythoses, and because, dude, I live in a culture with a Christin-based mythology, and I want something new and shiny! :P
It makes me happy that I introduced you to something that seems to be making your friends happy that you're watching it. HAHA!
I don't remember Jean and Avery, have I heard about them before?
Maybe Riverbank just has a lot of unintentional subtext, or maybe your readers are twisted. I could sort of see Moire and Micah, but what I was picking up more was Lauren and Micah, so. They could have arguments in different languages! Or people could choose which language to use in regard to how pissed off they wanted to make their family members. :D Languages are fun~
*refraining from breaking the Supernatural icon train, even though it doesn't quite fit my comment*
I don't think I've heard of them, then, but that story sounds like fun! I like that your Night-hunting woman is the physical strength/weaponry person and the Day-hunting man is the magician. Somehow it makes a lot of sense that the Day Hunters would use magic, too. Yes. :D
So I'm not another person picking up strange things! Hurray! I liked those two. This is what being multilingual is for, clearly. :D It is not so you can communicate with people, it is so you can exclude them.
