Here's something awesome sighted in the Coop today: An older couple - meaning mid-fifties or so - and a younger couple - mid twenties or so - in the SF/F section. The older couple and the younger woman are having an in-depth conversation about the merits of various science fiction series, while the younger man is standing back looking fairly ( Read more... )

Hunter is supposed to be pretty rad. Also, you should totally create a writing journal and post some of your short stories! I'd love to read them.

What do you find interesting about Hunter in particular? BSFFA is running a Hunter LARP this coming year and I have been very incredibly lazy in preparing for it. Are there any aspects that you'd recommend exploring?

It was mostly the compacts - the various small organizations of people who choose to be involved with the supernatural, and their motivations. Network Zero tries to publicize the supernatural using the Internet. The Loyalists of Thule are trying to atone for helping the Nazis. There's a hedonistic group in it for the blood and sex, fundamentalist Christians, an all-scientist group, cooperate researchers... along with the Endowments, which bring into play the questions of becoming a monster to hunt monsters, there are a lot of interesting ways the characters can rub up against eachother. It sounds ideal for a LARP, actually

I think I'm just sick of nWOD LARPs. Last year's was a combined Mage, Vampire, Werewolf LARP. The year before that (which was the year before I came to college) was 7th Sea. I think I would have enjoyed that a lot better. The all-scientist group sounds interesting. I don't have the Hunter book which may be a bit of a problem when I ought to be figuring out a character...

It seems like nWOD is in vogue right now. I just have a soft spot because I was introduced to roleplaying via Changeling LARP, and the best game I've been in so far was a Promethean group. WOD is also simpler than the only other system I've played - Pathfinder - and if this is true across the board I can see how it would become a standard... Anyhow. If you need the rulebook and have few scruples, a quick Google search might lead you to what you're looking for. *coughs*
