Three Parties in one Entry.

Jun 22, 2013 23:59

Last night I finished my daily entry at about 8pm and went to a birthday party. The birthday party was a lovely affair at some place called Pane e vino, the food was pretty good but I felt that the menu was a little limited, tons of wines were available but the actual number of meals were a little less. The food we did get was good, I ordered the pasta special which was Spaghetti and prosciutto with a light amount of Chilli and a green salad. Because I'm healthy like that.
I finished it up with some cheesecake and icecream and then, after everyone had said their goodbyes I went back to university and they all went home. My ID card doesn't work to open the door at the 24 hour labs right now so I had to wait until someone inside would notice me outside and let me in. Which took about three minutes followed by me finding a seat, signing on to the network and then sitting down to finish up another chunk of my ePortfolio. My ambition right now is to have all the content finished by Monday and then put it online on Tuesday and then edit it all around on Wednesday to submit it on Thursday.

I'm also thinking about including some of my posts from last year as part of the "Ten things you've written that you think show you've thought about libraries." I wrote about twenty things about libraries last year and I'm thinking that either this(What type of building is better for a library?) or maybe this(Libraries are just like parks for people who don't like ants) or lastly this(The Library and Piracy.).

These are three pretty decent editorials about my feelings as they relate to libraries and I think I should include at least one of them if only because the rest of my content is just assignments I've done because I never really tried to submit anything to the ALIA magazine when I probably could have and should have.

At around 2:30AM I finally got sick of the library, having finished cleaning up some of my already done content and adding some more to my fieldwork journals(the damn thing was set to a default size 10 font, no wonder I never felt like I was writing very much with them) so I left. After walking out into the freezing night I found myself walking through the cold QUT Campus and walked past these three guys just hanging out with a laptop each typing in the dark for some insane reason or another. I decided I would stay warm by finding a bar and just sitting there until my train came at 3:40am. I probably should have just waited it out in the library to be honest, but I was feeling like I wanted a beer so I went to Gilhooleys on Queen Street and had two beers and a few dozen glasses of water and suddenly before I realised it I'd missed my train(I ran from there to the station but alas I was about five minutes late) so I ended up taking a Taxi back to my car because I wasn't up for walking home again(without my laptop the walk isn't that bad but its a stone around my neck otherwise) and I didn't want to wait another 2 hours for the next train. Especially now that the pubs were all closed.

I got back to my car after hailing a taxi driven by this Sudanese guy who's been in Australia for eleven years now driving taxis for three. He has a degree in civil engineering and really likes living in Brisbane, but didn't like the cold weather. He said he was angry about Africa, because it is so lovely there but the corruption in a lot of places and the unrest causes so many problems that they can't deal with. Once I was at my car($27.40 later) I drove myself home to find that my dad had left his horsefloat in my usual carpark so I had to park on the footpath and then go in and go to sleep. I was exhausted by this stage and just crashed.

I woke up at about 11am this morning and got up and had a shower and a shave and got myself looking neat and tidy because I had two parties to go to today. The fist party was a house warming party in Holland Park West hosted by a girl I know from high school(I went to an all boys school, she went to the all girls school down the road, saying we went to school together is only a joke to those who know this) the second party was a 30th birthday for a mate from university. The housewarming was starting at 3pm and the birthday 7pm so I thought that the housewarming might be over or winding down by about the time I was planning on leaving(6:40pm) so I could then go without feeling like I was abandoning a happening event or looking rude.

Julia, the new homeowner, was really really proud of the house she has for herself, it was a bit of a shell when she moved in a few months ago but she's made it really nice in her spare time and the upstairs is just fantastic, the downstairs needs a little bit of work but her backyard has already got some flowers growing(not in bloom yet sadly) and some herbs growing in the front yard. I was happy to see how well she's put everything together and she was happy to see my housewarming gift of a Photo Frame bought at the last minute when I was in Coles looking for chips. She and her mum had made most of the food there and there was a lot of it to have. There was also Mulled wine which I kept calling Mold Wine because I honestly thought there was some kind of mold related element in the process of crafting it. I ended up talking to nearly everyone at the party including Julia's grandmother who told me about the cat that was a kitten and lived at the retirement village she lives at and about her late husband who was a department of health worker and died in 2005 which was a shame, I also talked to this lady and her boyfriend/partner(I don't think they were married but they acted like they'd been together long enough to be, I gave up on working out if people are married after one too many times having to tiptoe around it because some people are very sensitive about their lack of nuptials) the girl had done the Kokoda challenge the last couple of years and was very impressed when I told her I'd done the real thing. I also met a girl called Micah who has sworn off of ever getting married again. Her last husband was called Michael... It was doomed from the start.

I had to go at about 7pm, a bit later than I had expected to leave but I really needed to be there for the birthday party. As I was saying my goodbyes Julias family and boyfriend were setting up musical instruments to play some tunes. I really really should have stayed. I made sure to say goodbye to everyone and then drove off to the next party which was in Newstead at some placed called the Waterloo hotel.

The birthday boy was dressed in an English and Irish Lions jersey despite being born and raised in Australia. I think, because he is an investment banker, that he might just be a huge fan of HSBC. But it could be that he was trying to be contrary. I finally got to meet his girlfriend and circulated around his other friends, remembering names as best I could and chatting about stuff. It was a nice night, the game was on the TV and I waited until it was over before I made my apologies and left. There was this one girl there called Alex who was being hit on by a guy on my soccer team. I have no idea how well he did but she was giving off solid ICE waves before I left. I'll find out tomorrow how he went. If he got even a phone number out of her I'll be impressed.
The high point of the party was the cake, which was shaped like a Car and tasted wonderful. The only problem was cutting it and serving it, because the thing wasn't evenly shaped so slices were huge for some people(the body of the car) and tiny for others(the hood of the car).

I was happy for my mate, his girlfriend and him have been together for a while now, she and him seem to get along really well. I was worried that he'd never settle down and find someone for a while there. But he seems to be doing well, he's renting out his house right now instead of living there, which is probably a good way to make some good money. He's at his parents place and was talking about getting together sometime soonish to catch up and see how things are going. I'm kind of looking forward to that.

After I left I stupidly thought it would be faster to go through Roma Street than the Riverside expressway. I had forgotten that the Lions vs Wallabies game was on at Lang Park. I sat in traffic for an unspeakably long time before I was finally on the Western Freeway headed home. Overall I had a good night, I kind of regret leaving the housewarming party, because there were a few people there I really enjoyed talking to, but the birthday party was fun and I had a great time overall. Now I've nothing planned out until Thursday night when I'm going to be free of all this assignment work.
I really hate the crunch time.
