Had a friend just go through getting their account suspended and reinstated. The customer service aspect as been abysmal, but the poorly explained and erratically enforced policy is that you use a name you are commonly known by, it does not have to be your real name. When their account was suspended it was just G+, other services were not affected. They were able to get reinstated fairly promptly. Follow Fox Magrathea Circe on G+ for much discussion on this issue.

I covered this here: http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2094549/The-Google-Controversy-Virtual-Worlds-A-Question-Of-Identity last week, before this stupidity spread even farther than it has now.

An interesting wiki has popped up in relation to this as well: http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/wiki/Who_is_harmed_by_a_%22Real_Names%22_policy%3F.

Mostly, at this point Google is painting themselves to be incredible douchecanoes- their *actual wording* is to use the name most people in your life call you. But then they try to police *what that is*. It's incredibly fucked up.

So far, I've heard nothing to make me want to try google+ other than, "It's new" and that hasn't been enough so far.
