038. Sweat - June/July - Rambles & Snippets - Fiction[NET]

They were all closing in on him and he had no where to turn. She was long gone, left him to go back home because he wasn't the same person she had left with and this new country had roe bad points than good, and more bad points than their home had.

She had returned to her family, but he could not as they'd left him too, kicking him out of the family because he was a disappointment and worthless, and without her he was even more so. Without her, she was nothing, and without him, she was everything and better off.

"I'm glad I've left you!" she shouted, "I hope you die out there!"

Aiden woke up in a sweat, waking Minya as well as he thrashed around before he realised where he was again.

He fell back against his pillow with a sigh, before he dipped his hand into the glass of water on the bedside table, and then slapped his wet hand against his warm forehead.

"What's the matter with you?" Minya asked quietly, leaning on her side to look at him and making Aiden sigh.

"...I don't know..." his Irish accent made her think of home, and she closed her eyes as she sighed as well. Her hand found his and she squeezed it gently, prompting him to continue.

"It's just...everything really, I guess..." he remembered the dream in a sudden rush, and suddenly grabbed her hand tightly, pulling her closer as he hid his face against the curve of her neck, and shuddered with tears which were pooling at the back of his eyes.

"Christ, what's the matter?" she sounded worried now, and he stilled against her, feeling safe.

"...You're not going to leave me, are you?" he asked, his voice sounding strange. “We can leave, we can go back home if you like…”

Minya curled one hand around the back of his neck, soothingly playing with the hair to calm him down. “I like it here.” She reassured. “And I love you even more…” she paused. “Now…what’s the matter ‘Den? You’ve been acting strange for days now…what’s bothering you?”

“…I dunno’…” he replied after a long silence, and pressed against Minya further as if she could protect him from his own thoughts, thankful she didn’t mind how sweaty and clammy he was.

“We have two weeks and then it’s the holidays.” She pointed out. “And although we’ll still have rehearsals…maybe it’ll be less stressful for you?”

Aiden shrugged and eventually pulled away, gazing at her for a long moment before he kissed her softly, relaxing as she kissed him back exactly as he’d remembered, he was silly to almost believe things could change between them.

“So…what’s the matter?” she prodded once more, then waited quietly.

He remained silent for a long moment, and then brushed the back of his hand across his forehead, wiping away the sweat that had gathered there.

“I want to leave.” He answered finally. “I want to go back home…”
