002. Middles - Kaddar//Keladryie - 100_original

Even though they had been together for nearly eight months now, things between them were still a little shy and awkward because they were about to go on their first holiday together, alone. Their bags were packed and bookings had been made, the 4x drive outback car was filled with petrol and they had finished their last day at work. All they had to do now was leave.
"Here's the tent and bags, it's all there. Mikki repainted it so it'd be waterproof as well just yesterday." Seth said as he pushed the tent bags into the back of the car. His tone was slightly strange, and it was clear to see he wasn't overjoyed with the thought of his daughter disappearing for a week and a half out into the wilderness with a Verona, even if they were dating (something he was still trying to ignore...) and even if he knew well that his daughter would be able to beat Kaddar into the ground easily if anything went wrong.
"Did she patch the rip?" Keladryie asked as she and Kaddar lugged the esky into the back as well, the final addition before the slammed the boot door closed. Kaddar was quiet and Keladryie slightly distracted. They were having fewer and fewer things to do before there wasn't nothing else left but leave. They were becoming shy.
"Nope, yours truly did." Seth quirked an eyebrow at his daughter, and then looked a little ruffled at her reaction.
"Mum would have done it properly." Keladryie frowned. "If it rains, we'd better not get soaked." Keladryie lectured her father, before turning to Kaddar. "There's a huge rip in the roof of the tent, from when Dad thought it would be a bright idea to attack me during the night while I was sleeping and see how I would react..."
"That's how I got his scar." Seth added proudly, rolling up his sleeve a little to reveal a wide and deep looking scar which ran up his shoulder and then down his back a little.
"And the tent nearly fell down on Dorian and I." Keladryie rolled her eyes. "Anyway, we're going." she announced, forcing herself to get it started so the sooner the awkward silence would disappear. Usually she and Kaddar were chatting non stop and joking, here...they were acting as if they were still at work.
"Well...that CDMA mobile works way out there." Seth nodded, hands in his pockets so they wouldn't grab Verona and give him a talking to about even touching his little girl. "Give us a call once you're there so we know you arrived."
"Yes Daddd..." Keladryie sighed, they were trained Elitists for crying out loud, no matter what went wrong with the car, they'd be able to fix it someway, somehow for the simple fact they would have to be able to do the same if this was a work thing.
"Take care then." Seth bumped knuckles with his daughter, nodded at Kaddar and then left. None of her family were really into goodbyes anyhow.
"Well..." Kaddar smiled at her, a little shy, "Let's lock up the house and go, right Kel?"
She nodded silently, and then ran up the stairs with a bounce in her step, calling down if there was anything he had forgotten before she locked up the house and switched the security system on, walking slowly down the stairs eventually and then actually smiled when Kaddar challenged her to a game of rock, paper scissors to see who would get to drive.
"You can take the first shift." she offered, a strange thing since she usually fought tooth and nail to drive for the entire thing, sick of sayings about 'female drivers' and the like.
Keladryie got into the passengers side seat before Kaddar could question her though, and so soon they were pulling out of the driveway, hitting the button for the automatic gates to close behind them before they were driving out of the quite cul-de-sac street where their flats were located. Keladryie lived in a set of 15 flats along with 25 other Elitist females, although she never really slept in her own flat, generally working overtime at Nuikr HQ and sleeping there at her desk instead.

"Is everything okay?" Kaddar eventually asked as they hit the highway, settling back into his seat comfortably.
"Hmmm..." she looked at him through her darkly tinted sunglasses. "Sure, why do-ya ask?"
"Things just seem quiet between us...that's all." Kaddar took his hand off the wheel to hold hers, fingers tightening through hers possessively and making her smile softly. "I worry."
"It's just that...you know." Keladryie sighed and looked out the window, staring at the sun heating down on them. It was always hottest in the middle of the day. "This is our first time...alone...together...doing something kinda big. We've worked together and stuff...slept over at each others house...but this is kinda...well...it's what families do together, isn't it?" she pointed out eventually, still looking out the window so she missed Kaddar's eyes widen and his knuckles whiten on the wheel.
"Yeah, I guess so..." he muttered, shy at the very thought.
"And it's like...we're past the cute little stage of the relationship where everything is new and bright and innocent...and it's like we're heading towards the time where you're settling for something...long term...and it's just a bit...scary...I guess....you know?" she tried to keep her voice hard and almost uncaring sounding, as if to not let her real emotions show. Thankfully though, Kaddar knew this was just her way. He tightened his fingers around hers automatically, squeezing her hand reassuringly.

"This'll be fun." he assured. "We're finally away from work for a while...and we'll just be able to relax and do what we want."
"I know..." Keladryie's voice trailed off, and after a few moments she turned back to him and stared at their clasped hands. "I'm just...commitment...is something I never thought I'd have to bother with. ...I thought that since I was cold and hard and an Altec...I would never have to deal with putting my feelings into something like this..." she paused, staring at his fingers almost affectionately. "We're in the middle of a growing relationship...and...I'm afraid I'll ruin it..."
“Well…I won’t let you.” Kaddar took his eyes off the road for a moment to smile at her. “You’ll be fine Kelly…don’t worry about it so much, seriously. This may be the middle, but we’ll get through it to the very end…” he smiled as she squeezed his hand in thanks and turned his eyes to the back of the road.
“After all, it’s not my birthday yet for another three weeks, so we have to last until at least then, I want my present!” he joked, laughing as she hit his shoulder (carefully though, since he was driving).
“We’ll be fine, Kelly,” he promised her quietly. “I’m yours for as long as you want me…”
