“Are you serious?” Vera gasped after coughing and spluttering over her drink. “…It had never occurred to me that it could happen like that… Are you serious!?” she repeated and Jairdan was grinning like a maniac. “Oh but… this means it can go ahead! Are you sure? How much did he say again!?”
“I’m not repeating it here again.” Jairdan scoffed under his breath. “It’s enough, that’s all we have to worry about.”
“Well why aren’t we out there looking!?” Vera demanding, jumping down from the stool, the only time perhaps I her life where she was prepared to leave a drink half finished.
“It wasn’t there.” Jairdan replied simply with a shrug.
“We hardly looked!” Vera replied, jumping up and down on the spot.
“I could still tell… she wasn’t there.” He called over for another two drinks and indicated for Vera to take her seat again. “Come on… I want to leave just as much as you if not more… but the ship…”
“Has to be perfect, I know.” Vera sighed and hoped back up onto the stool.
She remained silent for a moment and then squealed softly, making Jairdan laugh. “I can’t believe it! I can’t believe this is actually happening!”

To celebrate they snuck into Jairdan’s estate to tell the head maid which had once been his nanny and she wrapped them both into an embarrassing but somehow right hug.
“We’ll give you a proper sending off.” She whispered. “And leave all your things with us, if you like and come back whenever you can to get whatever you want. You’ll both always be welcome, remember that, and we’ll cover for you and oh, it’s too good to be true!” and with that she wrapped them both into another hug.
“Here, your favourite!” she pulled down a heavy tin filled with the expensive after dinner mints Jairdan’s father only ordered for his very best celebrations. They took one each, it would be spoiled to take more than that and toasted each other with them, tapping the soft chocolate together in the middle before they savoured them.

“We should start packing.” Vera whispered as they made their way out of the estate once more. It was getting late but they planned to meet the next day to travel to the port on the other side of their world to check out the ships for sale over there. “Start deciding which is important and which isn’t… we can’t take much, can we?”
“And we have to decide how we’re leaving.” Jairdan murmured. “We can’t exactly announce we’re off to be Sky Pirates and simply go… they’d catch us. We have to wait until we’re well established and way too far ahead…”
“We’re eloping, what else.” Vera winked at him with a finger in her mouth as she smiled coyly, making Jairdan laugh and pull a face.
“Perfect.” He had to agree. “Right, well. I shall see you tomorrow, partner.” He grinned.
“Goodnight, partner.” Vera replied with a grin.
