024. As Well - April/May - Rambles & Snippets - Fiction[NET]

“I won’t waste your time and say I fell down or tripped down some stairs.” Sidney spoke, Natasha taking his hand quietly. Tait had noticed that both boys looked a little roughed up, Sidney looked a week away from a good fight but he hid it well, keeping a grin on his face and his head down, jeans and along sleeved shirt usually hiding his arms and legs.
“Dillon? You can explain it all better…” Sidney hand passed it on. “Sorry man, I don’t know how much you want them to know…”
“I know who I can trust when I meet them. It’s better if everyone knows anyway.” Dillon sighed. It had been nice to sit next to the girl he felt like he could connect with so well if either of them ever got up the courage to let the other into their dark little world.
“…I am… Very rich.” He began. “…Take the biggest sum you could ever imagine… multiply it by itself and then perhaps… you can see a little of what I have if I took only a little bit of it out to play with…” his words were spoken heavily and they all understood it was more a burden then something to be excited about.
“We left because of it. My family didn’t take too kindly to the fact that I got it all. …I won’t say how or why I got it, it doesn’t matter. My uncle just liked me best… saw what the rest of the family was really like. Worthless, greedy… violent. He knew they’d spend it all on drugs and whores.” Dillon paused and gathered his thoughts, not wanting to get into a dark rant. “With my uncle out of the picture it was fair game. Whoever got me out of the picture would get the biggest cut of the money. So I picked up and left, I had the money, so I did.”
“He was out of town for a night and they came after me.” Sidney continued as Dillon trailed off. “They told the police any story they could under the sun, tried to blackmail me… anything, to find out where Dillon had headed off to. That’s why I don’t look as pretty as I usually do. I hope first impressions aren’t always so lasting.” He grinned at their small audience, lightening the tone a little.
“Sidney called and told me what they did. So I went back for them. I didn’t know where I wanted to go, I just wanted to drive and get away, but with these two in tow we needed to make a decision. …The hardest place for them to look for me… us… was the Northern Territory. Tash said she had a brother here… so here we came. So she could at least be with some family when the baby comes…”
There was a little silence; Natasha leant on Sidney’s arm reassuringly who bumped knuckles with Dillon, a wordless assurance that he wasn’t blamed.
