And why the hell would the demon give his blood to babies and then wait 23 years to put them into action, why didn't he just give it to an adult and let them walk across the line??
Uhmm.... maybe adults are immune to supah powerz due to demon blood? Maybe the YED just thinks it's fun, we may never know.
And I think they said somewhere that deal with a demon = fire and brimstone.
DID I NOT TELL YOU 'WHAT IS..' WOULD KILL YOU? OH DEAN!

... good point. I had just figured that it would take that long for their "demon part" to actually become active, since they all started feeling their powers only last season. And... I don't know, they needed the powers because YED knew about hunters and he knew there would be people who's try to stop the chosen one? I honestly have no idea, I was so busy squealing OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG the entire time I kinda didn't notice.
Here's the thing about Supernatural that I don't like: all of your questions will probably never be answered. Like, there's the general arc, there's continuity, but the mythology of the show wasn't really as thought out as it seems it was. Eric Kripke is no Joss Whedon. He's no Damon Lindeloff or Carlton Cuse. Little details that we THINK will matter end up never being addressed. And it gets frustrating. The writing on the show, while admittedly better in season 2, is the weakest part of the entire series. Katie and I have discussed this at length, and we've accepted that the show has some glaring weak spots, because the boys' performances always save the weak dialogue and/or script. If any other actors had been cast, the show wouldn't have last a season.
