YAY knitting! I only learned New Year's Eve, and I'm already half done with my third scarf and have lots of other plans for future stuff (SO. MANY. HP. SCARVES.) and so many of my friends have started because they saw me knitting in school, even my physics teacher! I'm not doing anything past knitting and pearling, but I can't wait until I learn to do all the complicated stuff you do, those wrist warmers are so pretty!
Once you know the basics you can pretty much do anything! All you really need to know past knitting and purling is increasing and decreasing and maybe some fancy ways to seam things and you're good to go! I've only been knitting for a year and a half, it's fun to learn new stuff :D
How hard was it to transfer your knitting efforts from simple scarves to those daunting multi-needle things requires for wrist-warmers and other tubular things? My brain exploded in impotent envy and horror when I looked at the pattern for these particular wristwarmers... are there any easy ways to translate the mind-numbing pattern to something less daunting?
Well, I kind of built up my skills over time. So for instance with the wristwarmers, I've followed a chart before, I've done cables before, and I've done seed stitch and made gloves before. The pattern does look really scary at first, but once you understand that the chart itself is the front half of the gloves, and the back half is just knit straight through it's not too bad. As long as you know how to cable (which is the easiest thing ever, it takes like 3 seconds to learn) and you know how to k2tog and ssk, you should be able to handle it!
I don't think I have the patience to knit, honestly. My old roommate found it very relaxing, but I wasn't able to really catch on. Maybe because I'm left-handed? I don't know. lol
