My research is going swimmingly. I get along with Celia, I get to watch the really cool stuff (like injecting chemicals into lab mice), and I get to maybe take away something from all of Celia's experience on the road to PhD ( Read more... )

Ooo, I like blue hair.

I'm all for not caring about what people think of me.

I used to care so much in high school, but had had enough of it by the time I entered college. After defining myself fully first year, I don't care at all anymore. Also, I'm adamantly (sp) opposed to dressing up or changing just to please someome (unless it's someone I like and want to be attractive for them). I don't know if that made any sense.

Yes, but it's not really *that* kind of self-consciousness. It's more that I always say something stupid because I'm so nervous that I'll say the wrong thing. The rest has become true for me, though, just as you said, and for many of the same reasons.

Yes, but might a lack of self-consciousness make a better first impression?

I don't really show it. I just get really nervous trying to think of things to say, because I always used to say the wrong thing, I think.

For me, having crazy hair was a license to not care what people thought. This is healthy for me because I tend to care far too much what people think.

So, I've sacrificed my lack of self-consciousness for a good first impression. I don't know how I feel about that.

Maybe I should dye my hair blue.

Once again you hit too close to home.

You guys all hated me when you first met me (well, you hated all of us VT kids for hogging the kitchen). =P

I would like to come to Chapel Hill, but it's much easier for all of you to come to me. So you should do that instead.
