Usually when I'm having a shitty night it remains shitty--tainted with that underlying darkness which makes depression such a difficult thing to exist through--even in the company of good friends. Yet this night was a Night to Remember ( Read more... )

I like that movie, but I've noticed that whenever I try to watch it with someone it seems really silly and trying too hard to be deep, and I giggle a lot and have to give up on it. For me at least, it's the sort of thing that has to be watched alone. Also, I think it's one of the few DVDs that is actually interesting to watch with the commentary on. And you should watch all the "making of" stuff about how the animation was done - the animation is probably the coolest aspect of the movie. The "story" doesn't really get good until it gets into the lucid dreaming part.
I'm glad you liked it - if I'd realized you hadn't seen it already I totally would have recommended it to you.

Yeah, I could definitely get that impression. Luckily the person I was with...well, we were both very much in awe of reality I think, at that point. It'd been a long week, you know?

Mmm, well, like that, yes. Except it doesn't necessarily need to be capable of floating. =P

Or have a top. *shrug*

But those are cool!

Those are two very different movies with two entirely different sets of problems, so I don't see what the point is of comparing the two.
Waking Life: Yeah, a lot of it is pretentious bullshit. But the lucid dreaming parts are interesting, and I don't see how anyone could not be totally wowed by the animation.
As for Chasing Amy...I kind of liked it. I think it says a lot of things about relationships and sex that most movies wouldn't. But the ending kind of ruins it for me, because Ben Affleck is being such a dick (his stupid threesome idea is so SELFISH, and he's basically treating Joey Lauren Adams like a prostitute and thinks she won't mind because she has a history of being promiscuous) and yet nobody tells him off. He never learns to stop being a self-centered jerk, and that really annoyed me. Also the whole movie perpetuates the idea that all lesbians really need is to find the right man (yeah, she's bisexual, whatever, but I still think the movie sends the wrong message). Also, movie characters should not be named ( ... )

Oh man, that movie is trippy. "They say that dreams are only real as long as they last. Couldn't you say the same thing about life?"
