I started to make this as a bullet point aside in a post of miscellaneous pointless tidbits, but then it began to expand into a ramble that's long enough for its own post, so here we go. ( More after the jump. )
I totally agree! Although people do write OCs in HP fandom; they're just disguised by slapping on the name of one of the background canon characters (and I'm totally not bringing my Terry Boot obsession into this at all ;) ).
I do the same (see: Theo Nott), but I feel like the same problem exists re. getting any kind of readership for minor characters. Especially if said minor character isn't a Slytherin; I feel like the Theos, Blaises, ect. of fandom get cut more slack.
