Narcissa slipped silently from the bed, glancing anxiously at Lucius. Still sleeping. She padded barefoot to the wardrobe and slipped out of her nightgown, letting it pool at her feet and pulling on a set of plain black robes instead, then swept her hair into a knot at the nape of her neck and pulled her cloak about her shoulders, hiding beneath the hood, safe within black velvet. Silent as shadow, Narcissa picked up her wand and crept out of the bedroom, then slid her feet into a pair of shoes and Disapparated.
Narcissa never left the Manor without Lucius; she had made that mistake only once before.
"Ande? Ande, open up, it's me." Narcissa shivered despite her cloak, which she pulled closer against the bitter cold of the night. After a moment, the door opened, and Andromeda hooked an arm firmly around her younger sister's shoulders and pulled her inside.
Narcissa had only been in Andromeda's flat a few times, but there was something oddly comforting about the place. It was always warm, not cold and draughty and impersonal like Malfoy Manor, and it smelled faintly of vanilla. Andromeda pressed a mug of hot tea into Narcissa's trembling hands and gently shooed her on to one of the couches, then sat down beside her.
"Where's Ted?" Narcissa asked, blowing on her tea.
"Business trip to Germany," Andromeda answered. "Where's Lucius?"
"Sleeping," Narcissa answered, and sipped at her tea, letting it scald and burn down her throat against the chill of the night. Andromeda blinked at her, blinked those big green eyes of hers. "You snuck out?"
Narcissa nodded, and Andromeda didn't know quite what to make of it. Cissa had never done that before, and would certainly be bad if Lucius were to ever find out- Lucius had no patience for independence in that which he deemed to be his.
"Be careful," Andromeda said at length, and rested a hand on Narcissa's knee.
"I am," Narcissa said quietly, and set her mug aside to curl up against Andromeda. "You look good, Ande. New haircut?"
Andromeda nodded, smiling, pleased that Narcissa had noticed. "Yeah, I got it a couple weeks ago."
"I like it," Narcissa murmured. "It brings out your eyes." Ande had such pretty eyes. And a very cute blush, Narcissa decided, and kissed Ande's heated cheek.
"I've missed you, Cissa," Andromeda murmured, wrapping her arms around Narcissa's shoulders and pressing her closer. Narcissa let out a contented sigh. "Missed you too," she said, and let her eyes fall almost-closed, peering out at only a sliver of the room from between pale, pale lashes. Quiet, quiet.
Andromeda missed the subtle flick of Narcissa's fragile wrist, didn't see the wand in her sister's hand until it was too late and Narcissa's lips were moving and the air was burning green.
Dead.
The door swung open, and Lucius strode in, lowering his wand. "I trust you've learnt your lesson, Narcissa," he said coldly, and as the Imperius curse fell away Narcissa started to shake, tears welling in her eyes.
Dead.
"Yes, Lucius," she whispered, and bowed her head forward, shaking out her hair to hide her face, her eyes, her shame, hide the sight of her favourite sister's body lying dead and empty on the couch.
Lucius strode forward and grabbed her by the arm, and with a crack, they disappeared.
