I remember having to log in to Compuserve or aol on a slow-ass dialup modem to use the internet. And then mostly it was to write nonsense in those themed chatrooms where people pretended to be dragons and stuff. Sometimes in geometry we went to the computer lab to play Math Blaster; someone had secretly installed Doom on the network, and there was always at least one kid who knew the command prompts. Good times.
