-Author's Notes: Wow, talk about clichéd! Heh. I could have sat on this for a little while, tried to make it a little better - but I wanted to jump right in for the first fic.

I've always loved introspection oneshots. You handle it very well here, getting into his thoughts and why he chose a different path than what he'd been planning on for so long. I love the interaction with his sister too, how protective he feels and how outraged over what she has to go through. And I liked the little touches such as him being relieved that she wasn't by his bed when she needed to throw up again. No matter how much you love someone, that really wouldn't be a pleasant thing to deal with!

I also loved the sentence about him still having his sanity. Very poignant. And the whole last paragraph is haunting, especially River picking at something only she could see.

I'm glad you liked it! I really like introspection, too, though sometimes I worry that I don't know a character well enough to really get in his head. Hee. I really, really love writing these two and they're so close that I think there are a lot of facets to explore. It's gratifying to know that I managed to really show how Simon feels.

Hee. I was worried about the end - I thought that maybe the change from thought to action was too abrupt. But I was going for poignant, so I'm glad that worked! Hee.
