-Author Notes: These are just some drabbles I wrote. (Four, actually.) They're all based on a song - mostly, because the first one is based on an idea I got from a song, but has nothing to do with the actual song. I love these. Hee. Enjoy!

Song: Walking on Air -Kerli (Has basically nothing to do with the drabble, but could make an awesome basis for some other Rayne story.)
Rating: PG for character death
She wiped blood off his forehead. “You are breathing,” she whispered. “Still breathing.”
Jayne wheezed and tried to lift up; his arms gave out and he collapsed. River pulled him into her lap, the back of his head on one bony knee. “I’m… fine,” he managed. “Jus’ fine.”
“You are lying.” He heard a dry sob. “Don’t die, Jayne. Please don’t die.” Little fingers stroked his face, smudging the dirt and gore.
He closed his eyes. “Ain’t dying,” he whispered. “Just… Time to have a little nap.”
Tears fell onto his face. “Please…” she whimpered, voice cracking. “Have nice dreams.”
The hopeless lead the blind 'round that thirty-seventh sign in the town of wandering ones.

Note: I couldn't find a copy of the lyrics, so I just wrote (in the quote above the cut)what I heard.
“Hey moonbrain,” he called, running after her. “Wait up. Where the hell’s Mal an’ Zoe? Think I lost ‘em.”
River let him catch up. She grinned up at him and then pointed to the sky. “Look,” she instructed. “It’s sunset.”
He grunted uninterestedly. “Great. Jus’ great. Now where are they?”
“Beautiful. Admit it.”
“Fine. It’s real pretty. Now where’re the others?”
“Lost.” She spun around in the middle of the street. “Everyone everywhere is lost.”
He rolled his eyes and grabbed her hand. “Well then. Maybe it’s about time they got ruttin’ found.”
River threaded their fingers together and smiled.
I know by the end of tonight you won't have to look up at the stars.

Rating: light PG-13, maybe PG
“You okay?”
She touched his face, carefully regarding the look of concern her fingers found there.
“I… I am fine.” She wriggled closer to him, pulling the blanket with her. “Naked. But otherwise exceptional.”
He grinned proudly, pulling her against him. “Good. Told ya I’d, mmm…” He nuzzled his nose into her shoulder, pressing soft kisses there. “Make you see stars, didn’t I?”
“Yes.” She threw a leg over his hip and tucked her body under a warm, heavy arm. “My Jayne… If I have you to make my stars, I will never need to look at the sky again.”
But there's no use crying over every mistake, you just keep on trying 'til you run out of cake.

“Ha ha!” River cackled proudly, skidding to a stop against her brother. “She is successful once again!”
“Gorrammit girl!” Jayne crossed his arms over his chest. “I ain’t got time to mess around. You give that back right the hell now.”
“No. Will not comply!” She ran behind Simon, crouching out of sight.
“Doc, you best make her comply. Now.”
Simon looked at Jayne in utter confusion. “What? This… I… What?”
Jayne pouted, brows furrowing. “Ruttin’ moonbrain has my piece o’ cake.”
River leapt up, wiping a trace of icing from the corner of her mouth. She grinned. “Not anymore.”
