It's done. The steampunk ray gun, which I think I fittingly named. This took more time and patience than one might think. The aging and distress process was full of trial and error and I'm extremely pleased with the end result. I couldn't have done it without the talents of
mommyslilmonstr, who has amazing skill with setting things on fire despite being pissed. I don't think I realized how much he had drank till much later in the game. But his talents with the copper pipes was needed for the final result.I think when drunk, he has the ability to become intensely focused. Which is good when you're playing with fire.
No one was severely injured in the making of this ray gun. I said severely. Heh.
Special thanks to
madamekat!
"Captain Tallulah engages the use of her trusty ray gun, The Dauntless."
"There will be no more troubles from her pesky former lover now."
Photos by
Aaron Kennison and have been severly cropped to show the gun. Full photos to come much later.
The gun before:
Plastic toy gun, $10.
The gun after:
Unfortunately, the flash blows out some of the details. It's really quite amazing the amount of distressing done and how it looks up close. The copper was aged by the blowtorch, thanks to
mommyslilmonstr, everything else I did with paint. Including the joint seams where you see the verdi green colour.
I owe a very special thanks to
madamekat for giving my brain a jolt when I couldn't remember the name of the paint used, nor where to obtain such paint. She reminded me of antique solutions paint and pointed me into the direction of Michaels. Thank you doll!
