I just clicked www.hasbeanhadthebabyyet.us on Bean's journal, just to see if the status had updated yet.

I'm officially a web-junky.

I kept clicking it all day at work. It was calming to know that I hadn't missed the birth.

I'm waiting for the site to upgrade with an RSS feed so I can add it to my Google Reader...

Reposting my comment from another thread here:

Just keep refreshing. It'll update immediately upon birth.

Implementation was pretty easy. We'd already had an RFID chip implanted in the baby to ensure against mixups in the event that we needed a hospital birth. Now Bean just has to wear the RFID reader/SMS transmitter around her thigh during the birth and it'll detect the RFID as soon as the baby comes into range. That will trigger an SMS to a one-time-use number with an encoded message, which my server will use to change the display on that page.

Now I'm just working on a way to hack a video camera into the RFID Reader so we can stream the birth live on hasbeanhadthebabyyet.us.

Interesting. That's an awfully low-range RFID you managed to acquire there. Personally, I probably would have just gone with installing some faraday shielding in the uterus just to ensure the sensor wasn't accidentally tripped.

I've been clicking it first thing when I've been away from my computer for more than a couple hours.
