The Pillar Stands

The pillar stands, it stays, throughout all time It cannot fall, nor fail, nor turn to dust It is not stone or marble, earthy lime or metal prone to reap decay or rust
Intangible it bides, intransigent Intractable, unmoving, obstinate Immutable and absolute, and obdurate Resolute it rises, adamant
Your corporeal cares cannot it sway That outward content which beguiles your mind But which fades and goes and passes from your day Leaving little but a faithless shell behind
For still our hope prevails, and will endure: Our days are bitter but our dreams are pure.

It cannot fall, nor fail, nor turn to dust
It is not stone or marble, earthy lime
or metal prone to reap decay or rust
Intangible it bides, intransigent
Intractable, unmoving, obstinate
Immutable and absolute, and obdurate
Resolute it rises, adamant
Your corporeal cares cannot it sway
That outward content which beguiles your mind
But which fades and goes and passes from your day
Leaving little but a faithless shell behind
For still our hope prevails, and will endure:
Our days are bitter but our dreams are pure.
