Oh, I see how LJ is playing it. They not only stripped my user pics when I didn't renew my paid account, they also broke the links to nearly all the photos I had stored in their oh-so-convenient Gallery. Well, this irritates me. It may be the kind of irritation that is cured by spending the damn $25. Or, I suppose I could move the files to

Actually, it looks like LJ broke my links as well on my photos -- and I have a permanent account that didn't have any changes to it. So it may not have been the lack of renewal...hrm, but now that I think about it, the broken links might have occurred for me when I did the name change. Carry on with the ranting!

It's all a cunning plan not just to make you pay, but to pay more. :-)

From memory, when paid accounts drop to free the extra icons do stay on the server for a while (think it's 6 months, but you might need to check - it was in the FAQs somewhere), so if you switch back to paid before they're purged they'll just magically reappear again.

And if you don't, I think you get your default icon and the five most recently uploaded ones. Something along those lines, anyway.

User pics don't get purged for 6 months.
Scrapbook images can be purged after 30 days.

Well, I knew about the user pics after numerous past lapses in paid service, but the Scrapbook... that was a low blow. Bah! :) Thanks for looking that up!

Yeah. That's the pain isn't it? I have my photos elsewhere, though I do get slack and just use Scrapbook sometimes out of sheer laziness. If they are important things you don't want to lose, I'd shift those ones and don't sweat the rest.
