Still Alive

I had the kidney surgery on Tuesday. I now have several holes in my belly (laparoscopic surgery), some of which hurt. So I have some pain pills for that, and some antibiotics (routine for most kinds of surgery) Apparently everything went the way it was supposed to.They have to check a few details next week, but I'll find out the details soon enough ( Read more... )

Thank you! And so far everything seems to be going as expected. I've got a hole in my belly that HURTS, but they only gave me a limited number of Dilaudid pills. I've been able to eat normal food without trouble, and that's a good sign. And when I go for a follow-up exam they'll be able to tell whether the surgery did what it was supposed to. And that will reduce the load on my heart, which will make me feel stronger, I hope.

I've been needing a tummy tuck for the past 40 years, since my son was born. But cosmetic surgery requires very different preparation than ordinary medical surgery. I didn't even get a boob job after I had the lump removed from my right breast - I just walk around lopsided.I"m 73 years old, so I don't really worry very much about my figure.

LiveJournal won't allow me to login when someone replies to a cross-posted message. I think I'm going to post a message about that so people don't wonder why I haven't responded to their comments. I just wish the hole in my belly didn't hurt when I try to sit up in bed. And I wish the medical industry weren't so paranoid about opioids.

I'm glad to hear that it went OK. (I'm going through a long backlog in reverse chronological order, so I haven't read what the diagnosis is yet.)

I got a kidney stone, which led to a Urinary Tract Infection. A kidney scan detected that one of my kidneys was smaller than it should be, and I was probably born with it that way. There is a structure at the point at which the kidney empties its urine into the ureter, which connects to the bladder. I had a bit of scar tissue in that spot, probably resulting from the infection. That blockage was removed by this surgery. It was done via laparascopic surgery, five small incisions in my belly, one of which had a drain hanging out of it.That one hurt a lot, and I used up all he Dilaudid they had prescribed for me. The cardiac ablation I had last October did reset my atrial fibrillation, which led me to feel a lot stronger and healthier. I now have to wear a cardiac rhythm recorder for a few weeks to keep a running record of what my heart does when it's not under too much stress.
