I understand completely where you're coming from, and of course most of that is driven by JKR's lack of appreciation for higher education in her world, her strange grasp of mathematics, and the fact neither of these things were conveyed when she was first writing and casting was done. I give her something of a pass on that one, as she couldn't possibly have imagined the need to nail everything down because a film was soon to be made of her first book. The fact remains, as perfect as all the actors are in their roles, many of the adults are far too old for the backstories they eventually receive
