also Jemz said I should ask you; is "jya" the informal of "de wa" or something? I'm watching Maou, and Naruse uses "de wa" on the phone in places where I really expect him to use "jya" like when he's hanging up, and I was trying to figure out if he's being over formal or what.

That is exactly what it is! Ja is a contraction of de wa, which is more formal/literary. Good guess. :)
