Murni dianggap olahraga sekarang.
More like "forbidding Muslims from engaging in religious elements of yoga" like chanting, according to here. So it's like, with analogy to Muslim prayer, you can do the movements but don't recite, isn't it?
I know the spirit behind the ruling is not as detached as that, but well, it's not a blanket ban to that extent.
Yeah, I read that in the newspaper too - I must admit I wrote my post in such a hurry for a class.
Suppose we say the chants without believing in them? (Would that be blasphemous for the Hindus if we do? So it's actually the Hindus that should be more concerned.) I mean, if you don't even believe the gods exist why should be afraid that such chants can deviate you from your faith?
Then again why don't those clerics let the people decide for themselves?
Suppose we say the chants without believing in them? It goes back to the person I guess. Personally, I don't want to engage in other faith's rituals for various reasons.
First, I feel that rituals are conditioning of the mind, kinda like how we do prayers partially to remind ourselves of God. In the context of yoga, you chant to focus your mind, so there's an element of placebo there. If you truly don't believe, would it still be effective?
Second, I feel that if I do people's rituals nonchalantly without believing, it's not respectful to the other faith. Like, decreasing the special meaning of a ritual. Others may not think so, it's a personal belief. My interpretation of "Lakum diinukum waliyadiin".
Clerics... *sigh* in my ideal world they'll just be like doctors or advocates who advise you based on their expertise. Unfortunately this world has mass mob mentality who likes to be told what to do, rather than think on themselves...
I wasn't thinking of the chants as some kind of placebo, more like something to improve your breathing and blood flow while doing the exercise. Something like kiai.
