Words are unwieldy weapons

Here's a quaint senryū by John Cooper Clarke:
To express oneself
in seventeen syllables
is very diffic

I don't disagree with him, but people tend to waffle when strict limitations are not imposed on them.

Haha, I love that senryu. Brilliant!
I think that good poetry with limitations is quite rare and beautiful.

If there are no restrictions it's not poetry, it's prose (or waffle, depending how well it is done).
