Oh, Ireland. I like you most days, really.

Every month it's the same thing. I go to the supermarket, see a new issue of Alive! (free Irish Catholic monthly newspaper) and take it home with me. And then I sit down to read and have a rage blackout ( Read more... )

Ugh, stop it, people. Quit confusing "Christian" with "asshole nutcase". JESUS WOULD NOT APPROVE OF THIS SHIT.

Okay, I am officially Bettina-impaired. I can once again not tell who your words are directed at. Did I piss you off? Or is it the "asshole nutcases"? I'm not kidding, I can't tell.

Ahaha, no omg!! Sorry! By "asshole nutcases" I meant the folks who think practicing your religion entails stepping on everybody who doesn't share your "values" (because we all know the New Testament is ALL ABOUT exclusion and judgment). I WOULD NEVER SAY THAT TO YOU WHAT. ♥

(My ticket is in the mail! TWO MONTHS OMG I CAN'T EVEN.)

I was suspecting your answer, but I was not. sure. *g*

(I don't have mine yet, the website wants 19 Euro shipping to Ireland so I may have to send them to Becca. She's probably coming, too, if you don't mind. TWO MONTHS!)

My advice - don't. Read a good book instead, like this one: Sisters : Catholic Nuns and the Making of America. This is a part of history I never knew or even thought about. Where did all the schools and hospitals come from? Who built them? An incredibly fascinating tale full of awe inspiring deeds and even more awe inspiring women. Seriously, I had no idea. This book isn't about religion, it's about organized groups of women who operated and, in a limited sense, competed in a man's world and helped shape the country in a way that's still visible today. (It's also about how others, including the church, profited from it and refused them their place in history, but that's how the world works.)

That books sounds very interesting. Thanks for the tip, I put it on my Amazon wish list so I won't forget about it. And I'll try to stay strong and simply ignore the paper next month. I will try very very hard.

I agree, just don't read it, don't let them get to you like that. There are always nutcases who can make us crazy -- there's a group that pickets US soldier's funerals because somehow Teh Gay has contaminated them. EVERYONE hates them. So please, for your own sanity, either let that rage propel you to activism or stop reading that horrible disgusting rag. *hugs*

I will try to ignore the newspaper next time. It's bad for my blood pressure.

That is revolting.

HAHA! Love the last sentence!
I won't comment on the rest of your post for quite frankly I don't know nothing about the pope. Don't have time to read catholic newspapers. Blame it on all the smutty slash fics.
