Editing

What would be a fair amount to charge for editing a qualitative master's thesis (approx. 100 pages)? I have no idea what would be a fair price.

Thanks in advance for your input!

This is a big one. I charge a lot more to edit for science/structure than I do for straight grammar.

I edit scientific journal papers for a living and earn about $6 per page. I work through an agency, so I imagine the cost to the client is higher. It depends very much on what level of editing you're looking for - do you just need someone to check your spelling and grammar and make the text flow nicely, or are you looking for a major structural overhaul?

I've done it for free but with a verbal agreement that the favour would be returned of I ever wanted it.

If this is a one on one type of thing negotiate with your client within the range they can afford.

I was on salary when I did scientific editing and made about $28-30K a year.

[That's a long thesis. Mine was only 53 pages, including all the figures, tables, titles, signatures, acknowledgments and such.]
