LoR question

there is a professor at my school who left his wife for his graduate student about 5 years ago.  this is pretty well known. Unfortunately, he is the only one of my so-called friends who agreed to write me an LoR. Should I take his LoR? I am female. I am worried this might reflect badly on me and make it seem as though there was an inappropriate ( Read more... )

As I understand it, if you don't take his letter, he could get you in trouble with the dean.

I'm serious. At first I was happy he was willing to his associate his name with me (as I said ppl spread rumors baout me). But, then I realized maybe he doesn't care cause his reputation is pretty shitty as it stands.

Friends? You consider your professors friends?

There's a lot of stuff that professors do off the record. None of it reflects on students who take their classes.

I consider two of my professors friends. One of them was on my Masters committee. I cannot imagine it's that rare.

For grad students, it's not unheard of. It varies a lot based on the particular program and the school.

For undergrads, it's pretty unusual. And would be more unusual still if the undergrads had an accurate perception of their relationship with the professor, I think.
