post submission PhD.  Thought I was successfully recovering and doing the OMG ITS UNDER EXAMINATION denial thing quite happily while working dead end job that requires little brain skill but lots of grunt.  Until Friday.  Get message on phone from supervisor, apparently one of the examiners wants a word count.   Ok, fine - I do it.  Now I am doing ( Read more... )

wouldn't 50k fall out to around 150 pages? That is fairly typical for a quantitative methods dissertation in my field (sociology). Our Master's theses had to be a 'publishable paper' so no more than 40 pages, since journals won't publish papers longer than that.

You should be worried that your examiner is unable to count.

if your chair is worth her/his salt, he/she would not have let you submit your dissertation if it was not ready to be defended. Not necessarily going to stop you from worrying about it though. I suggest doing things to distract yourself, like go out with friends, go see a movie, etc.

Ah see therin lies a problem. Australian system, no thesis committee per se. There are other things, but username coupled with those things would make me very identifiable.

but you have a supervisor right? Someone who read drafts of your dissertation before you submitted the final draft?

Err yeah, sorta. Set of very bizarre and odd circumstances which I wont go into here for fear of people working out who I am, has made the last couple of years interesting.
