Foreign Language Exam

Sep 22, 2009 20:56

Hello --

I'm currently studying for my foreign language exam in November to complete my M.A. in Literature.

Does anyone know of any journals that have articles in French regarding literature that I could use to practice? I've been looking at the French Review, but only a few articles are in French every month.

Thanks!

well, your library will give you a whole bunch of them. And the librarian will help you find them. But I'd suggest poétique.

When I took that test, I was given two or three paragraphs (can't quite remember now) written by Julia Kristeva. So you might consider finding some of her books to practice on - or there might be articles online.

Oh, good suggestion! I've never read Kristeva in French, which I probably should do anyway.

Our test is about 20-30 pages that we must translate so I'm looking to get into working with longer pieces.

Thank you!

Exactly! Haha . . . We have 4 hours though... and I'm going to be armed with a kick ass dictionary.

I've been reading a really nice online french newspaper daily but was looking to expand to the jargon-y sorts of articles.

Surely you're going to the trouble of studying French as one of your "academic research languages" because there is material of interest to you IN French, yes? Try searching for articles on your research topics, with a search filter of "language: French".
