I'm always reminded of a bit of pseudo-wisdom my PhD supervisor passed on to me (possibly the only useful thing he passed on...); it took him a long time to be happy with, and publish, his first book, and he said the thought that overwhelmed him was what if I had been hit by a bus?

Rough and ready and finished is always better than incomplete and secret.
