I confess up front that I usually fail to tag on the rare occasions when I post to this community. While searching fruitlessly for the past 40 minutes for a specific post, I am in the majority.
The tags are useful not only for people who are searching for a specific post, as I am, but also for people who care to take the time to find out if posts

You suggest one, the mods get pissed off for not thinking of it first, then they say they've created it, and direct people to a non-existent page.
It's just one of the reasons why AA is so highly respected in the real world.

Or maybe we are allowed to make new tags whenever none of the existing ones apply.
Not sure.

In my experience, tags are wonderful for topical browsing, but rather poor for finding a particular post.
